The smooth surface of the sunstones glowed softly, even in the weak sunlight of late leaffall. They stood out against the harsh green-gold grass of the moors, a soft and scrubby sort of turf that crinkled beneath the tom's paws. Flintstripe made his way towards the suntones, his broad shoulders hunched and his face serious. The tom leapt onto one of the stones and let the warmth of the rock seep into his hardened pads. They were beginning to crack from lack of exercise in the deep SpiritClan tunnels, but he had taken to being a day-warrior, and it would be some time before he moved into the caves to sleep during leafbare.
Flintstripe rested against the stones and let out a sigh as he bathed in the sunlight. He had caught his fair amount of prey today, so he was resting while the sun was still there to give him some warmth. The tom shook out his thickly striped tabby pelt and narrowed his almond-shaped pale gold eyes. Then he closed them and rested, listening to the hum of the wind in the moor grasses.

A lithe tortoiseshell she-cat padded across the moorland. She had been looking forward to visitng the sunstones all day. It had been a busy day of hunting and patroling and preparing for leafbare. All she wanted to do was let the warmth of the stones relax her muscles. Shadowfire noticed a SpiritClan tom resting on the rocks. She chose a rock for herself not too far from him and layed down. She let the heat from the rocks seep through her pelt and felt the ache in her muscles ease.

The hum of the wind was replaced by the telltale swish, swish of cat paws in the grass. Flintstripe's eyes opened slowly, hesitantly. He saw a GaleClan she-cat padding towards him. She leapt onto one of the sunstones and lay down, her dark-and-light tortoiseshell fur blazing like a night sky of fire. Flintstripe stared at her openly, his expression dumbfounded. He had never seen her before. She was quite possibly the most beautiful cat he had ever seen. Or perhaps not... But it felt like that. He suddenly realized he was being rude and looked away, feeling a flush creep over his pelt.

Shadowfire felt eyes on her pelt and turned her head to look at the tom. She had saw him look quickly away as to not be caught staring and smiled. The tabby tom looked very handsome in the light of the sun. She had caught a flash of his golden eyes and was blown away. She decided she should try and start a conversation with him. "Hello" she said, a friendly smile on her maw.

The voice of a mockingbird, the tom thought, swallowing. Beautiful. He had never seen nor heard anything so lovely. His heart hammering in his chest, he turned back towards her and forced himself to speak.
"H-hello," he meowed, cursing himself for sounding like a pitiful mouse. Why couldn't he be calm? Probably because you've never been attracted to any she-cat before, let alone someone as beautiful as she, a voice in his head said. His tail flicked in irritation. Could a cat really feel this way after so few moments together with another? It was probably just infatuation. But his logical thinking didn't help his mouth to become less dry or his throat to feel less constricted or his heart to calm its fluttering beat.

Shadowfire thought his stutter was cute. She could tell that the tom was nervous but she wasn't exactly sure why. Surely he had to be popular among his clan, he gave off that type of vibe. "How are you?" she asked.

Flintstripe cleared his throat and said, "I'm fine, thank you. I don't think we've met before. I am Flintstripe." Flintstripe's ears pricked forward a little, listening for the sound of her name if she told it to him. He hoped she would. He wanted to know her name, the name that went with that beautiful face. Flintstripe swallowed and tried not to fidget so much.

"No I don't believe we have" Shadowfire mewed. "Its nice to meet you Flintstripe, I'm Shadowfire" she said. She thought that the toms name was fitting for him. She shifted positions, so that she was more comfortably facing the tom. It also made it easier for her to study him.

Shadowfire. Flintstripe's heart beat hard in his chest, and he wondered if any cat had a more beautiful name than that. Geez, what's happening to me? he thought miserably. I've become... mouse-brained somehow...
"That's a fitting name," he said gently.

"Thank you" Shadowfire said with a smile. "As is yours" she added. She could feel her heart skip a beat when the tom spoke. She wasn't used to feeling so attracted to another cat. She hadn't found anyone in GaleClan that made her feel quite like Flintstripe did, and they had barely spoken.

Flintstripe smiled slightly.
"Thanks," he said. "What brings you here today? Just enjoying the sunshine?" He found that the more he spoke to her the more he wanted to. He wanted to learn about her, about her hopes and dreams and everything. Just to know about her was all he wanted at that moment, and that desire was everything to her.

"Yeah, enjoying the sunshine and the relaxation" Shadowfire replied. "Its been a long day for me" she added. "How about you?" she asked curiously. She wanted to learn as much about the tom as possible.

Flintstripe nodded.
"It's nice to warm up after a long day of hunting. Do you come out here often?" he asked, hoping she would talk more. He wanted to listen to her lovely voice and watch her face as she spoke.

"It is, it feels great on the muscles" Shadowfire said in agreement. "Yeah, I like to get out here whenever I get the chance" she replied "its my favourite place to just relax and unwind." It was true, she tried to make it to the rocks daily, even for a short time. To her there was nothing quite like relaxing on the rocks.

Flintstripe nodded and smiled.
"Yeah, I like it, too. It's usually pretty quiet up here, which is nice. The day camp can be a bit noisy." He pricked his ears and looked at Shadowfire steadily, his pale gold eyes sparking with the warmth of attraction that stirred inside of him.
"So, what is it like living in GaleClan?" he asked finally.

"It is quiet, I rarely see anyone else when I'm here" she mewed. The company was nice for a change. "Lately its been very busy preparing for leafbare. Since we has so much flat, open space, the snow blows a lot and makes it difficult to track a lot of things" she explained. "But I love being able to just run on the moorland" she added "theres nothing that feels quite like it."

Flintstripe nodded.
"Well, the woods are always good for hunting, when you know how to get prey out of their nests. I'm sure Ashstar will let you all hunt farther into our territory when the cold sets in. We need to stick together, after all," he meowed. Clan rivalries didn't really exist between SpiritClan and GaleClan. They were friendly and open with each other. Their friendship as Clans had lasted for generations.

Shadowfire nodded. "Yeah, she did last leafbare. She's a very generous leader" she said. "I'm not that good at hunting in the forest though" she added "I'm better at speed than stealth."

Flintstripe grinned crookedly and smiled.
"That's why we day-warriors split our kills with you during leafbare. We can hunt in forest and you can hunt on the plains. Together we make a great team, right?" He flicked his tail excitedly at the thought. He had hunted beside GaleClan warriors a few times. It was sort of fun watching how other cats performed their duties. He was glad he lived in SpiritClan, where their relationship with their neighbor Clan was good.

Shadowfire nodded in agreement. "We do" she said "our clans always seem to do well in leafbare." She was often apart of the joint hunting parties, but she had never met Flintstripe on one before. "Do you do those hunting patrols often?" she asked curiously.

Flintstripe shrugged.
"Often enough, I guess. When the weather turns cold I spend more time elsewhere, but sometimes I do hunting trips with GaleClan cats. I've always enjoyed watching them run. You're all much quicker than I'll ever be," the tom meowed, his voice filled with awe as he thought of some of the cats he'd seen racing across the moors.
